Who won? - 2003-10-23 1:34 p.m.
Yesterday, in the LRT, a malay man in his forties came in an sat down in front of me with a bunch of newpapers in his hands. The late 30ish chinese woman beside him suddenly turned at him, and asked him about the day before's UEFA c'ship results between Arsenal and Dynamo Kiev. The guy happily opened the page of the Malay Mail he was holding and proceeded to talk about Arsenal and its table positions while the woman also voiced her thoughts and opinions. Two LRT stations later, the woman said thank you and went on her way. I smiled. Somehow, I found there's still honest and friendly people in KL within it's ugly selfishness and pretentiousness (if there's such a word..). The interaction between 2 different races and how they can easily talk about sports is just so refreshing, especially when the backdrop is set among ambiguous frustrated, snobbish looking people. There's probably hope for us Malaysians yet. Despite of our corruption, crazy-driving skills, love for credit card frauds and lots of others things I'm not proud of, there are still people who smile when you smile at them. What we need is something to unite us, because I can't think of anything right now that could.
